||Amy’s 2018 Book Awards||

I really didn’t know how to wrap-up my 2018 reads, I didn’t just want to focus on over-all favourites, I wanted to do something a little different, welcome to the Amy Reads Sometimes Book Awards!

Award for favourite main character…

Weylyn Gray: Beasts of extraordinary circumstance – Are we surprised? This book was one of my favourites this year and the main reason was down to its phenomenal characters and Weylyn Gray won me over right from the beginning. If you love magical realism I urge you to read this book right away. A full review can be found here.

Award for favourite side character…

Lemon and Cricket: Lifel1k3 – As someone who had only read Kristoff from the illuminae series I was blown away when reading this, the characters and world are both wonderfully written but Lemon and Cricket stole the show for me! Full review here.

Award for the most surprising book…

Dark matter – This was a book I received in a book box, I had never heard of it before but it was such a wonderful surprise. The story itself is fantastic, fast-paced and gripping and something truly original. I haven’t written a full review but just know that I loved it!

Award for the best short Story…

Plum Pie, Zombie Green, Yellow Bee. Purple Monster – This story is part of a collection by Jen Campbell which I read and adored last year, but this story in particular was my favourite. It’s wonderfully imaginative with a fantastic writing style, if you watch Jens YouTube videos you can really ‘hear’ her as you read.

Award for best Book to Movie adaption…

To all the Boys I Loved Before – As someone who usually doesn’t read/watch YA Romance I was slightly taken aback when I fell in love with the Netflix film, I then decided to read the book and really loved that too. Maybe it’s a sign to read more out of my comfort zone and find new things to enjoy!

Award for the Best Cover…

Eve of Man – When I seen this book in person for the first time I fell in love, they matched the dust jacket to the actual printed book and it looks stunning! Although I was unsure about this book at first I actually really enjoyed it and you can read my thoughts here.

Award for the most emotional book…

Everything Under – This is a book I actually haven’t finished yet, but I swear I’ll get round to it soon. The reason I put it down though is because I started crying on the bus about two pages in and knew I would keep crying in public if I went on. A very heart-wrenching book about a mother and daughter and a love for words.

Award for the most anticipated book of 2019…

Middlegame by Seanan McGuire – I have loved McGuire’s Wayward Children series this year and the premise of her new book sounds fantastic, I am so excited to explore a new world from her.

The Testaments by Margaret Atwood – Although I didn’t love A Handmaids tale I am really excited that it’s getting a sequel, the reason I didn’t love the first book was because it left me with so many questions and I’m really hoping I get some answers with this release!

I really hope you liked this style of wrap-up, a list of all of my favourites from the year will be posted soon. What books did you love in 2018? Amy x
